Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 August 2026

This policy applies to every Lexi language app published by Sabri Can Çetinbaş — including Learn Turkish - Lexi and every later app in the family — on both iOS and Android. The apps differ only in the language they teach; they are built from one codebase and handle data identically, which is why one policy covers them all.

In one paragraph

Lexi has no account and asks for no personal details. Your lessons, review history, streak and settings never leave your phone. A random identifier that we generate ourselves — not your device's ID — lets us count launches and check whether this installation has a subscription. If you use the optional AI practice features, what you write there is sent to our server and on to Google's Gemini API to produce a reply. We show no ads, run no third-party trackers, and sell nothing to anyone.

1. What we collect, and why

DataWhyWhere it goes
Installation identifier Count how many people opened the app; know whether this install has a subscription Our server
App name and platform (e.g. "ios") Tell the apps and the two platforms apart in the launch count Our server
AI practice messages (premium, optional) Produce the tutor's reply and the correction of what you wrote Our server, then Google Gemini
Photos in Vision Learning (premium, optional) Identify the objects in the picture and turn them into a lesson Our server, then Google Gemini — not stored
Subscription status Unlock premium on this install and restore it after a reinstall RevenueCat, Apple, Google
Lessons, progress, streak, settings Run the course and schedule your reviews Your device only

2. There is no account

Lexi never asks for your name, e-mail address, phone number, date of birth or any other personal detail, and it has no sign-up or login. We hold no profile that could identify you.

3. The installation identifier

On first launch the app generates a random identifier (a version 4 UUID) and stores it in its own storage. We use it, and only it, to identify an installation.

It is deliberately not a device identifier. Lexi does not read the iOS Identifier for Vendor, the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), the Android Advertising ID, the Android ID, your IMEI, your MAC address or your phone number. The identifier we generate is meaningless outside the app that made it, cannot be matched with any other app or service — including the other Lexi apps — and is removed together with the app when you delete it. A fresh install starts with a new one.

4. Launch check-in

When the app starts it sends the installation identifier, the app name and the platform ("ios" or "android") to our server, which records the time of the launch. This answers two questions: how many people are using the app, and does this installation have an active subscription. No lesson, answer, score or setting is included, and the call fails silently — a learner with no signal simply carries on.

5. The AI practice features (premium, optional)

Lexi Premium adds three practice screens that use artificial intelligence. If you never open them, nothing described in this section ever happens.

Tutor and Adventures

When you send a message, the app transmits that message, the recent messages of the same conversation, your source and target language and your level to our server, which forwards them to Google's Gemini API to generate the reply and the correction. We store the text you sent and the reply that came back, together with the timing and size of the request, so that we can monitor cost, spot abuse and improve the teaching prompts. These records are tied to your installation identifier, not to you.

Vision Learning

When you take or choose a photo, the image is uploaded to our server and passed straight to Google's Gemini API to identify what is in it. The image is processed in memory and discarded as soon as the reply comes back: we do not save your photos, and we do not use them to train anything. Only the fact that a Vision request happened is recorded, never the picture. Lexi requests access to your camera and photo library solely for this feature, and only at the moment you use it.

Google as our AI processor

Google processes this content as our service provider under the Gemini API terms. Please avoid typing sensitive personal information into the AI screens — they are there to practise a language, and anything you write is sent onward to produce a reply.

6. Microphone and speech recognition

Speaking practice uses your device's own speech recognition — Apple's on iOS, Google's on Android — to check whether what you said matches the word you are learning. The recording and the recognition are handled by your operating system under Apple's or Google's privacy policy, and depending on your device settings may be processed on the device or by that platform. Lexi never uploads your audio to our servers and never stores a recording. Only the result — right or wrong — is kept, on your phone.

7. Purchases

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple and Google. Payment is handled entirely by them; we never see your card details, billing address or App Store account. We use RevenueCat to tell us whether a subscription is active, identified by the same random installation identifier described above.

8. Notifications

Reminders are optional and off until you turn them on. They are scheduled by the app on your own device at the time and on the days you choose; nothing about your reminders is sent anywhere, and there is no push server. You can turn them off at any time in Settings, or in your phone's own notification settings.

9. What stays on your device

Everything else: the course, your lesson progress, which words you know, your review schedule, your mistakes notebook, your streak, your daily goal, your interface language and your reminder plan. This data is stored in the app's private storage, is not backed up to any server of ours, and is removed when you delete the app.

10. What we never do

11. How long we keep it

Launch records and AI practice records are kept for as long as they are useful for running the service, and are deleted when you ask us to. Photos are never stored. Audio is never stored. Everything on your device is gone the moment you delete the app.

12. Deleting your data

Deleting the app removes everything held on your phone and the identifier that links you to our records. If you would also like the server-side records erased, write to scancetinbas@icloud.com from any address and say so — we will delete the launch history and AI practice records for your installation within 30 days. Because we hold no personal details, please include your installation identifier if you still have the app; without it we can only delete on a best-effort basis.

13. Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your data, and to receive a copy of it. Our legal basis is legitimate interest for the launch count and performance of the contract for the features you use; for the optional AI features, we process your messages only because you chose to send them.

If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know, delete and correct, and the right to opt out of sale or sharing — which is already moot here, because we do neither.

Exercise any of these rights by writing to scancetinbas@icloud.com. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

14. Children

Lexi apps are general-audience language apps and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and there is no personal information to collect. The optional AI features generate text, so parents of younger learners may prefer to keep the app on the free course, which is entirely pre-written and reviewed.

15. Where data is processed

Our server runs at a hosting provider we contract with. Google's Gemini API, Apple, Google Play and RevenueCat may process data in other countries, including the United States, under their own safeguards for international transfers.

16. Security

All communication between the app and our server, and between our server and Google, uses HTTPS. Our servers are access-controlled, and the AI provider key lives only on the server — it is never shipped inside the app. No system is perfect, but we hold as little as possible precisely so that there is little to lose.

17. Changes to this policy

If our practices change, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will also be described in the app's release notes.
